Selection Process
Mode of Selection:
Selection for all posts under NCL Recruitment 2026 will be through a Computer Based Test (CBT). Candidates will be shortlisted purely on the basis of their relative score in the CBT. Document scrutiny / verification will be conducted only for candidates who qualify the CBT with the prescribed minimum cut-off marks.
Exam Pattern:
For HEMM Operator (Trainee) posts, a single common CBT of 100 marks and 90 minutes duration will be held. Each question carries 1 mark and there is no negative marking for wrong answers. The paper will be bilingual (Hindi and English); in case of any discrepancy, the English version will be treated as final.
For Paramedical Staff and Overseer (Civil) posts, the CBT of 100 marks and 90 minutes duration will be conducted separately for each post and will have two sections — Section A (Technical Knowledge, 70 marks) and Section B (General Knowledge, General Awareness, Reasoning, Verbal & Mental Ability, Quantitative Aptitude, 30 marks). Each question carries 1 mark and there is no negative marking.
Minimum Qualifying Marks:
| Category | Minimum Cut-Off Marks (out of 100) |
|---|---|
| UR / EWS | 50 Marks |
| SC / ST / OBC-NCL / ESM / PwBD | 40 Marks |
Score Normalization:
If the CBT is conducted in multiple shifts, NCL will apply a score normalisation formula. The normalised score for each candidate (Xn) is calculated as: Xn = (S2/S1) × (X – Xav) + Yav, where S2 is the standard deviation of the shift with the highest average score (base shift), S1 is the standard deviation of the candidate’s shift, X is the raw score, Xav is the average of the candidate’s shift, and Yav is the average of the base shift.
Tie-Breaking Rules:
For HEMM posts: (i) Higher percentage in Matriculation; (ii) Date of Birth (older preferred); (iii) Alphabetical order of name as in Matriculation certificate.
For Paramedical posts (except Jr. Technician ECG): (i) Higher score in Section A; (ii) Date of Birth (older preferred); (iii) Alphabetical order.
For Jr. Technician (ECG): (i) Candidate possessing graduation degree preferred; (ii) Higher score in Section A; (iii) Date of Birth (older preferred); (iv) Alphabetical order.
For Overseer (Civil): (i) Higher score in Section A; (ii) Date of Birth (older preferred); (iii) Alphabetical order.
Syllabus:
For HEMM Operator (Trainee): Road Signs & Signals, Traffic Rules, Motor Vehicle Act Basics, Elementary Knowledge of Machine (engine, braking, cooling, steering, tyres, gear systems, electrics), General Awareness / Knowledge (current affairs, reasoning, government schemes, general science), and Basic Mathematical Aptitude (10th standard level arithmetic, speed, distance, trigonometry, averages, time and work, simple and compound interest).
For Paramedical Staff: Section A covers technical/discipline-specific knowledge as per the respective course curriculum (e.g., nursing, pharmacology, pathology, dental technology, physiotherapy, optometry, radiography, ECG). Section B (common for all) covers General Knowledge, General Awareness, Reasoning & Mental Ability, and Quantitative Aptitude.
